Metal Pre-Treatment
Natech Ltd are well known in the manufacturing industry for their advances in metal pre-treatment chemicals & technologies. Using naturally derived materials where possible, these metal pre-treatments have always been safer for the user and the environment. Operating at low (and often ambient) temperatures, products are highly efficient and economical in use.
Our metal pre-treatment technology is built around a combination of natural accelerators, cleverly blended in order to accentuate their already high performance.
From the original ZP range of products, Natech have continued to develop conversion coats for metals that remain at the forefront of technology.
All of Natech’s pre-treatments are fully built, this means that they contain a range of surfactants designed to remove oils and contaminants. This can reduce process time and costs.
Unless otherwise specified our metal pre-treatments are suitable for use on mixed metals including steel, aluminium, zintec and galvanised steel.
Natech SST (NEW)
Natech SST represents a significant departure from current pretreatment technologies. It operates as a comprehensive system, providing both pretreatment and cleaning in a single stage, without the need for metals or polymers. This allows it to maintain high levels of performance even when processing dirty parts. Additionally, the absorption of dirt into the coating eliminates the necessity for post-treatment rinsing.
Offering salt spray hours in excess of 750 hours (on aluminium and galvanised steel) makes SST an ideal choice for applications requiring high levels of protection against corrosion.
SST (Single-stage technology) is based on the concept of electron sharing. Unlike traditional methods that involve coating metal surfaces with conversion coatings, SST does not use metal and instead forms active bonds on the metal surface through electron sharing. Traditional materials used in pretreatment such as zirconium, chrome, titanium or zinc are not used. This allows topcoats to bond effectively.
Advantages of SST include but are not limited to:
- Complexity is minimised by reducing multi-stage pretreatment lines to a single-stage, which provides greater space efficiency, reduced maintenance and a simplified operations.
- Prevents the build-up of sludge.
- Promotes environmental sustainability and efficiency.
- Water Consumption decreased by approximately 80%. (Based on converting a 13-stage line to SST).
- Energy Consumption decreased by approximately 73% (Based on converting a 13-stage line to SST).

Natech ZP : Zirconium Pretreatment
The original Zirconium oxide coating, in use worldwide for over 10 years.
Natech ZP was one of the first Zirconium based pre-treatment products commercially available in the UK. It is still in use today and is one of the market leading products in the USA.
Offering salt spray hours in excess of 500 hours (on steel) from a 3 stage process, this zirconium pretreatment remains a simple “drop in” replacement for iron phosphate. Its highly efficient, low sludging formulation allows the user to operate at lower temperatures with a longer bath life than traditional iron phosphates.
Operation is simple, this self buffering product requires no costly additives or pH adjusters.
Natech ZP is a completely chromium free conversion coating for use on mixed metals to greatly enhance corrosion protection and adhesion of subsequently applied coatings. The product gives a very high conversion coating efficiency. This ensures the absolute minimum removal of metal during conversion coating, which gives low levels of sludge and long bath life. Natech ZP is a fully built product and cleans and conversion coats in a single stage, greatly reducing process times and cost.
Natech’s zirconium pretreatment technology can also be used as a “dry in place” conversion coat in the final stage of a process line. This is useful when parts have varying levels of contamination on them as a dedicated cleaner can be used in the first stage. When used in this way natech ZP can operate at extremely low concentration (<0.5%).
Natech PF
A completely phosphate free process, originally developed for geographical regions with strict controls on phosphate in effluent streams.
Natech PF was originally developed for use in Turkey where there was a demand for new, cutting edge technology with an improved environmental profile. This product has enabled large white goods manufacturers to reduce their process from in excess of 5 stages down to 3 stages, reducing energy, water and effluent costs as well as speeding up the pre treatment process. Salt spray hours in excess of 750 hours have been achieved. This product is now a market leader in Turkey.
During 2017 Natech PF has been launched in the USA where there is now a desire to move away from phosphate containing materials. Offering an improvement over results obtained from Qualicoat approved materials on aluminium, this product is beginning to make an impact in the US market.
